Higher or Lower?

This puzzle requires lots of thinking: You are given two boxes with a number inside each box. The two numbers are different but you have no idea what they are. You pick one box to open; read the number inside; and then guess if the number in the other box is larger or smaller. You win if you guess correctly, and lose otherwise. Is there anyway that you can win the game with more than 50% chances no matter what the two numbers are?

I don't give you the answer, you're supposed to find out without me saying it.

I think the answer is 1 & 1 1/2... Maybe, I think so, I'm not a genius so don't flame me if I was being an idiot.

i think it's higher, because there are always an infinite number of numbers higher than a given number-it goes up to infinity..(i know that was kinda confusing...)

There's an infinite number of numbers lower than a given number if you include negative numbers.

You pick an arbitrary number, say 100. If first number is <100 you guess it is lower number. By odds you SHOULD be right 50% especially if done great number of times, but it cannot ALWAYS be 50% exactly...if your guess is right even once more than 50% of guesses, THAT is when you stop, with very small correct percentage than 50%

There is an infinite number of positive numbers, and an infinite number of negative numbers.

If the number in the opened box is positive, there are more numbers lower, and you should guess lower. If the number is negative, you want to guess higher. It will give you an infinitly small edge, but an edge never the less.
